Brief description

VivaCity was a five-year research project developed in conjunction with the University of Salford, University College London, Sheffield Hallam University and more than 30 partner organisations. It was the largest project funded under the EPSRC's new Sustainable Urban Environments' programme (www.epsrc.ac.uk). Using an action research methodology VivaCity analysed urban planning, design and consultation processes to identify when and how key decisions related to urban sustainability are made. Case studies included London/City Fringe, Sheffield and Manchester. Cities Institute led on a study of Mixed-Use and Quality of Life with UCL. The project led to the development of decision-making support tools and resources to enable widened stakeholder participation.
