Brief description

This is project is developing an open-access on-line design guide for buildings that combine dwelling and workplace [‘workhomes’], through the design of a series of exemplary dual-use buildings. The project involves a Knowledge Transfer from doctoral research into the architecture of home-based work [Holliss F ‘The workhome… a new building type?’ London Metropolitan University, 2007]. Designing to minimise the disadvantages of this working practice, and emphasise the benefits, the aim is to develop a range of affordable and environmentally sustainable buildings designed around the requirements of a wide variety of different home-based workers. In addition to the design guide this project has developed an on-line pattern book, through which these designs are available commercially.
