Brief description:

Coastal areas are under intense pressure from both continuing high levels of human mobility and urbanisation and climate related change, notably from sea and river levels and consequent erosion and flooding. Under the EU FP7 programme, SECOA will respond to these challenges by undertaking a major international study of the impacts of urban development and climate change on coastal systems. Case studies will be undertaken in two coastal zones in eight countries, in order to produce a robust analytical model, comprehensive policy guidelines and best practice recommendations. The UK case studies will be located in the Thames Gateway and Portsmouth. EU partners in the project include Rome, Lisbon, Gothenburg, Brussels, Tel Aviv, with Asian partners in Vietnam and India.
