Evaluation of the Media Trust Youth Mentoring Programme Evaluation

Overview

IPSE has been commissioned by the Media Trust to evaluate their Youth Mentoring programme. The programme matches media professionals as volunteer mentors to youth-led media projects involving “disadvantaged” young people aged 13-25. The programme is delivered across London and in regional areas identified as economically deprived including Birmingham, Bristol, Manchester, Liverpool, Hull, Bradford, Leeds and Nottingham.

The evaluation will be based on qualitative research in the form of case studies and telephone interviews. The aim is to capture evidence against the Youth Mentoring programme’s four key objectives:

1. To deliver high-quality mentoring provision to disadvantaged young people

2. To engage mentors from across a spectrum of media disciplines

3. To provide opportunities for disadvantaged young people to improve knowledge and skills and increase social, practical and personal confidence

4. To provide the media industry with the opportunity to engage with community organisations.

The evaluation will also explore the impact of the programme on the four key groups: young people, mentors, community organisations and media companies. It will involve case studies of a number of the projects participating in the programme, including interviews with young people, mentors and youth organisations.
