The European Masters in Citizenship Education

The European Masters in Citizenship Education

We have developed a distant-learning Masters Programme in partnership with five other Universities in Europe:

  • University of Patras [Greece]
  • Univerity of Linkopping [Sweden]
  • University of Paris-Descartes [France]
  • Evotos Lorand University, Budapest [Hungary]
  • Universita la Sapíenza Roma 1 [Italy]

The degree is currently awarded by London Metropolitan University, the University of Linkopping, the University Paris-Descartes and the University of Patras.

Study is largely by e-learning, following modules on the internet, but in virtual contact with a group of students across Europe. There is an intensive two-week residential programme at a point in the whole programme, which is expected to take students 2-3 years to complete on a part-time basis. Students also complete a supervised dissertation. The course is designed for students who are already working professionally with young children or teenagers [perhaps as a teacher or a youth worker].

The programme is part of the CiCe programme and its associated European Masters project. It is aimed at educational professionals who wish to develop their understanding of citizenship education in the European context, and an appreciation of how identities are formed by children in the context of European development.

Further details are available, and it is possible to register your interest in this course electronically. Our next intake of students is scheduled for the Autumn of 2007.
