2009 International Conference on Security and Protection of Human Rights Defenders

Human Rights Defenders(HRDs) - Support for HRDs at Risk

HRSJ recently hosted the "2009 Conference on Security and Protection for Human Rights Defenders", designed to engage European support, and UK focus on the important work being done by Human Rights Defenders worldwide in an increasingly dangerous climate.

HRSJ is also developing a programme concerned with developing sustainable support for human rights defenders working in At Risk countries. Our EHRAC project offers long standing support network with HRDs in Russia and Georgia; HRSJ currently works with HRD groups in At Risk countries such as Uzbekistan and Darfur, Sudan and is building an educational programme for HRDs, currently through our pilot project in Central Asia. HRSJ is engaged in project activities in Autumn 2009  in Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan, working with HRDs from many regions within Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan.
