Short Biography

Nick Blishen worked for Orange Music after leaving college in the early ‘70s, but then had to get a ‘proper ‘ job, and worked in the electronics industry for over twenty years. During that time, he did various jobs including prototype wireman, test engineer and design draughtsman. Faced with redundancy, he discovered the guitar making course at the City of London Polytechnic (formerly the London College of Furniture). After studying at the college for four years (it had in the meantime been renamed the London Guildhall University), he then set up his own workshop in the Hertfordshire / Essex border area. After a few years of making and repairing guitars, the University (now the London Metropolitan University), asked him to teach the guitar making evening class. This was followed by teaching on the degree course, and he is now Course Leader / Senior Lecturer for the BSc Musical Instruments.
