Sir John Cass Department of Art, Media and Design

Jewellery Student wins Postgraduate Scholarship

Derya Dogan, an MA Jewellery Design student at The Sir John Cass Department of Art, Media and Design (JCAMD) has won the Sir John Cass Postgraduate Scholarship, which is awarded by the Sir John Cass Foundation.

Derya has been studying jewellery since 2000 when she started a National Diploma in Jewellery, Silversmithing and Allied Crafts at the department, which was at the time part of London Guildhall University.

After completing the National Diploma she progressed to do a Higher National Diploma (HND). In 2005 she went to Buckinghamshire and Chilterns University College where she graduated in a BA Honours in Jewellery Design in 2007.

"I am very happy to be coming back to the department where my jewellery training started. I am really enjoying the course. The scholarship will really make a difference as it gives me the opportunity to reach one of my goals in life. It gives people from low-income families or people with other personal issues a chance to study by offering support with things such as materials and living expenses - without the award life would be very difficult for me as a student. We need to encourage the dreams of young Londoners from difficult backgrounds. The Sir John Cass Foundation scholarship offers the support to make this possible. I’m delighted."
