Compressibility of stottite, FeGe(OH)6: An octahedral framework with protonated O atoms

This body of research has contributed to the understanding of minerals and crystal identification and its use on decorative surfaces and painting on canvas.

The research article presents the analysis of an extremely rare mineral and its behaviour under the high pressures experienced at depths within the Earth where it is expected to be found. This research developed further understanding of the behaviour of minerals at extreme conditions and increased knowledge of the geological processes operating within the Earth, particularly those involving water.

This work formed a wider part of the research conducted by the Crystallography Group in the Department of Earth Sciences at University College London with which I was involved from 1994 to 2000 both as a Ph.D. student and as a post-doctoral research fellow. The research undertaken during this time lead to the publication of further research articles in peer-reviewed academic journals, for example:
