work: The Personal and the Political - Uncle Izu
a documentary film

event details

The Personal and the Political - Uncle Izu is a painful, intimate and sometimes funny exploration of the death of an utopia and of the suffering of a generation of WW2 communist resistance fighters, betrayed by the party and the Ceausescu dictatorship.

This documentary is shot in high definition and continues my own researches into film language through an investigation of the dialectic between film image and sound, voice and music.

It is intended as a live performance in its own right and will be premiered at the Romanian Cultural Institute in London on December 12 2007 as part of an event entitled The Nature of Memory & Truth - a premiere screening of two visually innovative video documentaries as a performance with live music and HD projected visuals. This event is a collaboration with composer and performer Alexander Balanescu.

We intend to tour the film to other European and US RCI branches in 2008 and to arrange for a special performance event at MNAC - the National Museum of Contemporary Art in the People’s Palace in Bucharest.
