Sir John Cass Department of Art, Media and Design

JCAMD academic joins Martin Scorsese on line up for lecture series

Dr Nicholas Haeffner, Senior Lecturer in Communications at the Sir John Cass Department of Art, Media and Design has been invited to share the bill with world renowned film maker Martin Scorsese at an Alfred Hitchcock themed lecture series in the US in March 2008.

The lecture series, at Hillsdale College in Michigan will combine five films and five lectures that consider Hitchcock’s long career, his lasting legacy, and the enduring value of his art.

Dr Haeffner, will be talking about Themes in Hitchcock following a screening of ‘Notorious’ while Scorsese is due to discuss ‘Hitchcock as a Director’ following a screening of ‘Shadow of a Doubt’. The other Hitchcock classics under scrutiny will be ‘The 39 Steps’, ‘Vertigo’ and ‘North By Northwest’

"I have to admit that I was quite surprised to receive the invitation and at first I wasn’t sure that I wanted to do it. Scorsese’s Raging Bull and Taxi Driver are widely acknowledged as two of the greatest films ever made and he’s such a film fanatic that he’s bound to know Hitchcock’s work inside out. I felt slightly queasy about the thought of him in the audience for my presentation," said Dr Haeffner.
