Sir John Cass Department of Art, Media and Design

JCAMD students design and direct sci- fi promo for latest Ministry of Sound release

MA Digital Animation Students Luis De Jorge and Tom Wall (known collectively as Blinkin Lab) were appointed by award winning production company Sherbet to design and direct a CGI Video to accompany the latest single release from Ministry of Sound.

‘Kinda New’ by the band Spektrum, who perform in the video, was remixed by Ministry DJ's Dirty South. Luis and Tom designed the promo to incorporate the speed and energy of the track, using software called Maya and incorporating live action.

Inspired by the movie 'Tron' and Ridley Scott's cult classic 'Blade Runner' the promo plays homage to 80's sci-fi. As racing cars battle through a futuristic Tokyo landscape, Lola and the band perform on enormous LCD screens tapered throughout the city. As the track mounts, the cars charge ahead, forming one moving spectrum to conclude the song. The Producer was Rebecca Rice.

Michael Upton, Academic Leader at the department said, "We’re delighted to see our students delivering such high profile projects. Our emphasis on creative, professional media practice is really paying off. We wish Blinkin Lab every success."
