This group exhibition was assembled at the invitation of the Matini Arte Associazione, Torino, with Falconbridge as one of six artists along with Phillip King, Rob Ward, Terry New, Carole Hodgson and Derek Morris. All participating sculptors presented distinct themes of sculptural practice within the UK. The exhibition was also intended to make an important contribution to launching the restored Villa Boriglione as a venue for visual arts exhibitions within northern Italy, as part of the regeneration of Grugliasco and the region.

The exhibition seeks to draw attention to, and showcase, British sculpture as a dynamic within contemporary international sculpture and to highlight selected sculptors who have been and are influential as artists and academics. The sculptures on show by Brian Falconbridge form a mini-survey of sculptural output over the previous decade including recent works made since 2001.

All of these sculptures are small in scale - mostly no more than 15cm in height. All works should be seen as works in their own right, cast as unique objects (i.e. not editioned) and as the size they are - and not as maquettes. This emphasis on small scale reflects Falconbridge's interest in, and attachment to, a Japanese sense of completeness within a reduced scale, sometimes referred to in Japanese culture as "hakoniwa" - the world in miniature.

This survey demonstrates a shift in research themes away from more explicit reference to historical still-life depiction (as in Ego dormio et cor meum vigilat I ) with the use of green patination, to a more architectural depiction with layers of forms exploring scale, and balanced asymmetry, utilizing a less imposed brown patina (as in Geometry, Flowers & Shadows III, 2003).
