Report in relation to the planning of a new Art Centre in Os

Confidential report (for external body)

Os Council

January 30, 2007

36 pages

Between 2006 and 2007, I produced a report for Os Council in regards to the proposed development plan for the building of a new Contemporary Art Centre in the borough.

On the initiative of Per Grieg, Norway's greatest Philanthropist, Os Council, which is a small borough situated right outside Bergen on the South-West Coast of Norway, decided to give free land close to the city centre's harbour to build a Contemporary Art Centre to emphasis innovative, experimental and interdisciplinary arts and cultural events on an international level.

Per Grieg made his fortune in Shipping and the Fish trade and has always been very keen to donate to a wide range of professional activities within the arts. He has founded the Grieg Foundation, which today represents the greatest private fundraiser within the arts in Norway.

I was asked to produce a report investigating different Arts organisations and institutions in London, and focussing on very practical issues. In this report I researched the types of exhibitions which might be interesting to invite and the type of facilities that would be needed to host them. Further detailed questions I looked into included technical requirements, commissioning and productions, transportation and overall costs.

For the report, I selected six different arts institutions in London: The Whitechapel Art Gallery, ICA, ArtAngel, South London Gallery, Camden Arts Centre and InIVA. A lengthy presentation was made of all these institutions in the final report, which was sent with the building application to the National building and planning Department for approval.
