International Conference on Designing Food and Designing For Food

London Metropolitan University, June 28-29, 2012

London Metropolitan University, with the International Food Design Society, is pleased to introduce the International Conference on Designing Food and Designing For Food, the first academic conference on Food Design.

The International Conference on Designing Food and Designing For Food will provide a forum for the presentation and discussion of research on fundamental aspects of Food Design across all domains of application, including food product design, design with food, food packaging, food engineering, interior design for food, food system design, and more.

The conference presents papers, posters and projects by academics, researchers, students and designers from 21 different countries.

Models and prototypes of the selected for the Project session, will be exhibited for the duration of the conference. Designers will also have the opportunity to individually present their projects in a dedicated session.

The conference Keynote speakers are 'the world's only Thrill Engineer' Brendan Walker, and 'food futurologist' Dr. Morgaine Gaye.

The International Conference on Designing Food and Designing For Food also features the first PechaKucha Food Design, organized in collaboration with Architempo. This satellite event is free and open to the public. The PechaKucga Food Design will be held at the conference venue on Friday 29th, 2012 at 20:20.

Brendan Walker

Brendan Walker is often described as "the world's only Thrill Engineer". He originally trained as a military aeronautical engineer, before researching and teaching in Interaction Design at the Royal College of Art. Brendan now runs Aerial - a design practice specialising in the creation of tailored emotional experience, with clients such as The Science Museum, Merlin Entertainment, and Disneyland Paris. Brendan is also a Senior Research Fellow in the Mixed Reality Laboratory at the University of Nottingham, and a regular contributor and presenter on TV.

Dr. Morgaine Gaye

Dr. Morgaine Gaye looks at food and eating from a social, cultural, economic, trend, branding and geo-political perspective. Her work involves consulting to food companies, developing new products and ideas; writing articles/ trend reports for PR and ad agencies; giving public, university and corporate lectures on specific food trends, developing new ideas for TV and doing research on all elements of the eating experience from mouth-feel to olfactory perceptions. She is currently presenting a series on CH4 called The Home of the Future

International Food Design Society

The International Food Design Society is a non-profit organization founded with the purpose of creating an international network of designers, chefs, academics, food industries and food passionate who contribute to the development of the food design discipline.

Francesca Zampollo

Is a Full-Time PhD student and teaching assistant at The Cass (The Sir John Cass Faculty of Art, Media and Design) London Metropolitan University. She is also founder and chair of the International Food Design Society. She organized the First International Symposium on Food Experience Design in 2010 and the International Conference on Designing Food and Designing For Food for June 2012. Her research into food design and children’s eating habits in partnership with Cornell University was widely covered by international media this year.

Architempo

Architempo is a cross-media experience design agency, working on projects for institutions and companies, with networked partners. Founded in 2004 by Alok b. Nandi, its references include a wide range of projects in multiple media, from concept development to strategic design, from interaction design to exhibition design.
