Scale

Exhibition

Museum of Installation
London

May 8 - June 15, 2002

curation
co-curator: Maurice van Tellingen

The body of research undertaken regarding the exhibition Scale at the Museum of Installation focuses on the relationship between artworks and location. The question of "site" is addressed in this exhibition by a dramatic reduction in relative scale.

flyer:

The four installations, minute in size, questioned the association between presence or visual effectiveness and scale. Participating artists included Maurice van Tellingen, Hans Op de Beeck, Eric Steensma and Frank Halmans. The exhibition Scale was funded by the Henry Moore Foundation (£3000) and the Mondriaan Stichting (£3000) [Netherlands] and includes a limited edition catalogue. It was curated by Nicola Oxley and Maurice van Tellingen and fits into the larger programme of the Museum of Installation.

This organisation, set up in 1990, was directed by Oxley and Nicolas de Oliveira and focused entirely on the research and dissemination of Installation art. The organisation commissioned over 200 individual works, as well as large group projects in Berlin (Box Project), Mexico City (The Vanishing City), Venice (Bienale) and Los Angeles (ART94). Artists shown at MOI include Martin Creed, Mischa Kuball, Anya Gallacio, Graham Gussin, Stefan Bruggemann, Oswaldo Macia, Marit Folstad, and Terry Smith, among others.
