Biking between the meadows of Groningen on the 11th of September, I hear the news about the terrorist attacks on my mobile phone. I don't believe it. One hour later it's 'the talk of the world'. It makes me think of other world-events such as the atomic bomb on Hiroshima on 6-8-1945 and the fall of the Berlin Wall on 9-11-1989. My head is full of questions. What's the meaning of 11 September? Is it the end of the world as we know it? What's the relation between the past, the present, the future and the human being? What's the meaning of September 11 for educating young people? Can education play a constructive role in a deconstructed world?
