Comments: What is children's own conceptualisation of their and their family's economic circumstances? How doe children understand their economic position in society and in their family? Do they see child labour as a strategy for themselves? Do they think of themselves as potentially contributing to the household economy? Which of the activities do the children see as work? This paper illuminates these questions, describing a project in which children of various ages were the informants (3 - 6, 10 - 12 and 14 - 16 year olds). Interviews, essays and drawings area analysed relative to gender, age and the social context.
