Teachers of different school subjects must be aware that they should develop pupils’ civic role. Acquisition of geographical education is included in primary and secondary school programmes in Slovenia. Our research addresses the knowledge and skills to be acquired and developed by the students in geography education so that they will make effective decisions for people and nature. We tried to encourage students to understand their responsibility in solving global problems as students/future geography teachers. Our senior class of geography students were nasked to develop learning experience that would use creative ways of teaching to incorporate citizenship education and a sense of global responsibility. Geography teaching can contribute significantly to learning about one’s homeland, national space and their connection with the world.
