Starting from home: Analysis of an education faculty’s process of internationalisation

The concept of citizenship has become a priority in the European political and educational agenda. This paper describes the internationalisation of the Education Faculty of the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona and outlines the impact on the faculty. Previous international policy focused on mobility actions - excellent for broadening students’ backgrounds, but almost exclusively around learning foreign languages. One of our first changes was to introduce European perspectives into the curriculum. European Issues was compulsory for all Early Childhood and Primary teacher trainees, alongside a project on European citizenship. International and global perspectives are now at the fore of teacher training, our graduates consider human development in a world context and intercultural parameters. Wider global perspectives are part of the daily life of the Faculty.
